Welcome to Noosawiki and your opportunity to become a valued contributor of writing the history of Noosa.
Before you get started, we recommend that you also read the Policy and Guidelines which will assist you in understanding what we expect of our community of users. It outlines the types of information we are hoping to see on Noosawiki and runs through basic Noosawiki ettiquette to ensure that we develop and maintain a happy and cooperative community of Noosawiki contributors who will engage in lively and respectful discourse.

So, you have something you'd like to post to Noosawiki? How to go about this? If you have basic computer skills in word processing, email and scanning (for those who are interested in including images), then you are qualified to use and edit Noosawiki.

Step 1: Registering

1) Register as a user by clicking on the link in the top left corner.

2) Complete the fields in the registration form. You will need to choos a username and password and provide a valid email address.

3) Once you have submitted the registration form, you should receive a confirmation email within a few minutes. The email will contain a link to validate your registration. Click on the link and you will be taken to the wiki and should see a message that says your registration is now activated.

3) Log in to begin adding your stories and images.

Step 2: Contributing a story

1) Look for the relevant section for your information in the content menu on the lefthandside of the page. (If you feel that an entirely new theme page should be created, please contact us with your suggestion).

2) Click on the 'edit' icon (a pencil and paper symbol) next to the print icon in the top right corner to open an editable version of the page.

3) THEN EITHER:

Add text to that page, by simply placing the cursor in the appropriate place and typing (or cutting and pasting from a word document - recommended).

OR

Create a new page within that page, by creating an internal 'wiki link'. This can be done by using 'quicktags' (a link to the left of the edit box) and choosing the icon that looks like two sheets of paper or by typing the title you would like to give to the page inside a double set of brackets.

4) Your new page will open when you click on your new link. Paste your information in your new page and click SAVE

Adding a picture

1) Click browse next to the upload picture line below your text. Insert your image. Your image hypertext link will appear in brackets at the top of your page. Cut and paste it to where you want to embed it into your text. Centre you image by highlighting the bracketed information and clicking on the "centre text" icon in quicktags. Click SAVE!

Your Images

To maintain a sense of order and size standards, Noosawiki requests that all images posted to all sites except Noosa's Photo Album are no larger than 400 pixels wide and centred using the centred quicktag. Please include a caption to explain the photo where necessary.

For Noosa's Photo Album, we ask that the images here are no larger than 300 pixels wide and that they are posted only 2 images wide with a small gap between them. To make a small gap between images placed side by side, please use a fullstop mark 6 times. We would also appreciate a short commentary or caption on each image.

Handy Hints:

We recommend that you produce your information on a Word document first and then copy and paste the page. Once logged on for editing, there is a tendency after some time for Noosawiki to drop out, therby erasing your work. Very frustrating!

The 'quicktags can also be used for adding features such as bold, underlining, centring, or creating an external link.

Practice in the Sandbox before you add 'live' material.
